The Beauty and Culture of Russia will be Celebrated at the
7th Annual Miss Russian LA 2018 Competition
Friday, March 30 in Hollywood
(Los Angeles, Calif…March 23, 2018) As women each day overcome gripping struggles and create powerful stories of success, nine special Russian women will be in the spotlight as the 7th Annual Miss Russian LA 2018 Competition returns to Hollywood on Friday, March 30 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex. This elegant evening event will showcase the strength, intelligence, beauty, and talent of these finalists representing their Russian roots as they compete to bring home the crown. At the conclusion of the competition, one woman will win the coveted Miss Russian LA 2018 title. The Complex is located at 1201 Vine Street in Hollywood.
“I am proud to be able to showcase the talent and beauty of my beloved homeland,” says Lika Osipova, Producer/Director of Miss Russian LA 2018. “Even with all the turbulence surrounding Russia, we have had an incredible amount of support and enthusiasm for this pageant in the Los Angeles community. My goal is to provide an entertainment-filled evening as well as a challenging competition.”
The event has become an entertainment spectacular, this year featuring special performances by David Longoria (Grammy Award-winning singer, trumpeter, performer, and producer), Dallas Lovato (Actress, know for the film No Vacancy and big sister of Demi Lovato), Peter Dranga (Russian accordionist who has revitalized the popularity of the accordion by developing a unique pop style), Shami Oscar (award winning singer who has over 7 million views on youtube will be performing and judging), Gregor Ross (Country music singer/songwriter), and a show-stopping opener by hot Southern California-based boy band, Undecided Future. The evening will be co-hosted by Oleg Frish (multi-talented singer, music historian, and popular talk show host) and Baxter Gaston (actor comedian, writer, and producer).
Celebrity judges will include: Cathleen Young (TV writer/producer known for A Place for Annie, MacGyver, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Her Own Rules, author, producer of the Humanitas Prize Awards and author of 2018 novel The Pumpkin War); Evgeny Afneevsky (Oscar and Emmy-nominated director/producer of the documentary Winter on Fire and his latest project Cries from Syria, which earned him Critics Choice Documentary Award); Gleb Savchenko (professional dancer/choreographer currently on Dancing with the Stars), Tom Bené (President of Sysco).Ryan Long (Founder of City Summit and Gala); Alex Durmashkin (American Russian Media), and more to be announced.
This year special guests include Demi Lovato (Grammy nominated and mulit-platinum singer, songwriter, actress with over 145 million social media followers), Larry Namer (co-founder of E! Entertainment Television, Movies USA Magazine, and current head of Metan Global Entertainment Group), Rich Thurber (TV producer and iconic road manager/producer for Howie Mandel, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson, currently working on NBC’s America’s Got Talent).
Over the years, this star-studded event has brought out many of Hollywood’s elite including Mickey Rourke (Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor); Nick Light (VP of Sony Pictures); Jeffrey Prang (Mayor of West Hollywood), and more.
The pageant is open to any qualified female at least 18 years old who is a California resident with the ability to speak Russian. The final nine contestants were selected from over 50 applicants who have been in rehearsals for over a month. The finalists will be judged in five separate categories: presentation, talent, interview, bikini, and evening gown. The evening gown portion will be overseen by Russia’s fashion icon, Bad Apple Couture and Marine’s Couture. Both English and Russian will be spoken throughout the pageant.
This year, the pageant winner will receive the title of Miss Russian LA 2018 and an award package valued at over $20,000 including a bejeweled crown, appearance on the front cover of Fact Magazine, and a five-day trip for two to a location of their choice including Cancun, Mexico, Hawaii, or Miami, FL provided by event partner Popkoff’®, creator of the authentic Russian dumplings that are healthy and delicious.
Anna Petrova is the reigning queen. She served as an ambassador this past year representing the Los Angeles-based Russian community at numerous public speaking engagements, fundraisers, and civic events. There are an estimated 600,000 Russian-speaking people in Southern California. West Hollywood’s Russian-speaking community is the most concentrated single Russian-speaking community in the United States outside of New York and consists primarily of immigrants from different Republics of the former Soviet Union such as Russian Federation, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Latvia, and Uzbekistan.
In conjunction with the competition, the third season of Miss Russian LA 2018 Reality Show will air online in October 2018 at www.eventcartel.com. with 24 episodes.
Tickets for Miss Russian LA 2018 start at $150 with VIP seating priced at $185.
